Frank and Mary Beth Chan decided to downsize and move into a two bedroom condo in the heart of the city. NeoStar Design was asked to come up with an Asian modern design for their new home.<\/p>\n

The condo was an empty shell with carpet throughout, linoleum in the kitchen, and basic lighting.<\/p>\n

We started by repainting the whole condo in a base color of soft butter yellow white and accented the space with blond, and ginger.<\/span><\/p>\n

DINING ROOM | In the dining room, we incorporated many furnishings the Chans already had and added a few new pieces. Three ginger color bars on the main dining room wall frames three photographs by Tim, a photographer friend of the Chans. The pictures are also accented by horizontal bands of silver paint. The whole look is a modern interpretation of a traditional Chinese scroll art. Beneath the pictures is a new buffet console to store their dinner ware. A new circular glass fixture in amber and white fused glass echo the lines of the dining room table.<\/p><\/div>\n

To give the space better flow and that warm modern Asian feel, we decided to first remove the carpet and put in 6″ wide espresso brown walnut hardwood floor. This allowed the space to flow from the entry into kitchen, hallway, dining area and family room. The new hardwood floor also helps anchor the spaces and pop out the furnishings.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

FAMILY ROOM | The family room’s main wall is also accented in the ginger color. It nicely frames an original silk embroidered art piece much loved by the owners. The hardwood floor flows into this space and is only used as a 18″ perimeter border. Inset into that is new plush Ralph Lauren carpet. A new hand-forged oval light fixture echoes the shape of the oval 2 tiered coffee table beneath it. Two new woven bamboo chairs are added to the conversation space. A modern woven floor lamp also adds additional light at night time.<\/p><\/div>\n

GUEST BATHROOM | We also redesigned both bathrooms. One is done in an espresso pin stripe wall paper accented with bamboo, water lily photographs, new light fixture, mirror and shower curtain.<\/p><\/div>\n

MASTER BATHROOM | The master bathroom is in a bold Chinese red pin strip. That bathroom is accented with faux orchids and a framed watercolor of flowers by Mary Beth’s aunt.<\/p><\/div>\n

MASTER BEDROOM | The master bedroom got a complete transformation. A textured modern stripe wallpaper was hung horizontally to accent the lenght of the room. New table lamps added extra light for reading in bed. But, the show stopping piece has to be the new modern chandelier which you can dim for those romantic evenings.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>
